About the Senufo
The Senufo ethnic group represents one of West Africa’s most culturally rich and historically significant communities. Primarily living in northern Côte d’Ivoire, southern Mali, and western Burkina Faso, the Senufo people preserve vibrant traditions, spiritual practices, and artistic excellence. Moreover, they continue to shape the cultural landscape of the region through agriculture, craftsmanship, and community-based values.
African metal art reflects innovation, spirituality, and political authority. For centuries, African societies have shaped iron, bronze, brass, gold, and silver into powerful symbols of identity and status. Moreover, metalworkers have held respected positions in many communities because they transform raw earth into sacred and functional objects.
Across Africa, blacksmiths played central roles in society. Communities relied on them for farming tools, weapons, ritual objects, and household items. Furthermore, many cultures viewed blacksmiths as mediators between the physical and spiritual worlds.
