Description
A distinctive Bwa crested bird chevillière (anklet) made of cast aluminium and collected in Burkina Faso. This elegant ornament features a stylised spiral crest representing a bird motif, a form associated with Bwa women’s adornment during the Dwo mask dance ceremony, sometimes referred to as the mask of leaves.
The anklet displays a pleasing aged patina from use and was produced using the lost-wax casting technique. Its simple yet expressive design reflects the rich metalworking traditions of the Bwa people of Burkina Faso.
Dating to the mid-20th century, this example remains in good condition with attractive wear consistent with age and use.
