About the WODAABE
The Wodaabe, are a subgroup of the larger Fula ethnic group.
They are traditionally nomadic pastoralists, herding cattle, goats, sheep, camels and donkeys.
The Wodaabe livelihood can be precarious, as droughts are not uncommon.
It is during these periods, that feeding their animals is challenging as well as difficult.
The Wodaabe strong cultural identity, not only binds the ethnic group together, but makes it strong.
Qualities of modesty, intelligence, patience, endurance and loyalty are valued.
Lineages, clans and sub-clans define Wodaabe social structure.
Marriage follows certain rules and focuses around the Guérewol festival.
The Guérewol is an occasion to express courtship intentions as well as to interact with other clans.
