Description
Large Tuareg leather tent storage bag, known as abalbed, from the village of Abalak in Niger.
Traditionally, men cut the hide and prepare it for tanning. The women do the fine detailing as well as the embroidery work.
The bag is inscribed (visible in first photo) in Tifignah (Tuareg alphabet) and is suspended by a four strand leather twisted rope.
The large lavishly decorated central panel is accented by long fringes and elaborate tassels. The rear side is also decorated with a hand-drawn design.
Tuareg leather work from the village of Abalak in Niger, distinguishes itself for the use of small glass beads and sequins to adorn their leather pieces.
