About the LOBI
The Lobi are an ethnic group primarily living in southwestern Burkina Faso, as well as parts of northern Ghana and eastern Côte d’Ivoire. Their name is often interpreted as meaning “children of the forest,” reflecting their historical settlement in wooded, remote regions.
The Lobi are especially renowned for their wooden spirit figures (called bateba), which serve protective and spiritual roles.
Amulets are a vital part of Lobi spiritual life. These objects are believed to protect the wearer from illness, witchcraft, misfortune, and spiritual harm.
The Lobi believe in powerful invisible forces that can either help or harm humans. Amulets serve as a physical link between the wearer and protective spirits.
