About the TUAREG
The Tuareg are a nomadic Berber people of the Sahara. They live mainly in Mali, Niger, Algeria, and Libya.
The art and jewellery of the Tuareg, is both aesthetic and functional.
Tuareg silversmiths produce intricate jewellery. The Agadez cross is perhaps one of their most recognisable symbols of jewellery.
The Tuareg are highly superstitious and wear protective jewellery. These enclose Koranic verses, sand from the Sahara or magic script.
Jewellery is worn as adornment, but foremost, as protection against evil forces, illness and bad luck.
