Description
Ancient Islamic glass beads in beautiful shades of blue, dating from approximately the 10th–12th century.
Djenné, Gao and Timbuktu were among the principal trade centres through which these beads travelled across the ancient trans-Saharan caravan routes.
The strand comprises 55 beads, including five eye beads and one folded bead.
Their attractive weathered surface and white patina developed during centuries of burial in the desert sands.
Temporarily strung on nylon.
