Description
A tribal used Dioula dance rattle.
Rattles are from the class of instruments known as idiophones and produce a rattling sound when shaken.
Elaborated from brass and iron sheets, the globular head is adorned with repoussé decorated metal sheets wrapped around a wood shaft, or stick.
The cavity of this dance rattle contains metal “seeds” making a striking sound when shaken.
Nice usage patina, mid 20th century – Collected in Burkina Faso.
