Tuareg Pierre Noire Amulet for Snake Bites, Mali

Description

The Tuareg survive in a very hostile and challenging environment, where existence is basically, man against nature.
Such an amulet was worn as a type of ‘first aid’ against snake bites and is a natural way of treatment.
The stone is moistened with saliva and applied to the bite, neutralizing the venom of the snake bite.

This rare and unusual object was collected in Mali.
