Description
These impressive Tuareg silver bangles are from the region of Gao, on the Niger River, at the southern edge of the Sahara desert in Mali.
Such bangles are usually worn in pairs, with one around each wrist. Each bangle is hand-incised with a superb pattern that puts into value the overlap and also highlights the hand-made rivets securing where the two ends join.
Tuareg jewelry designs and patterns vary from region to region, though there exists an overall stylistic uniformity characteristic of Tuareg pieces.
Pairs are rare, as they become separated with the passage of time.
