Description
This old Tuareg silver amulet or tcherot is hand-incised with a fine pattern as well as superb repoussé work.
The interior of the talisman could contain a piece of paper on which are written verses from the Koran or old magic formulae prepared by the Marabout, or it may even contain sand from the Sahara.
The more aesthetic a tcherot, the greater is its effectiveness and power to ward of evil – the evil eye, and to bring luck and good fortune to its wearer.
Superb age and usage patina, mid 20th century – Collected in Mali.
