Description

An impressive triangular shaped pendant, known as n’gadoun or lahia highlights this old Tuareg takassa necklace.
This form of pendant is a traditional gift given by a man to his future bride as  a symbol of his love. The triangle together with the diamond shape, are symbols of fertility.
The hand-cased lahia is adorned with cylinder shaped “ismana”( in Tamascheq), interspersed with vintage c. 1920’s black faceted glass Czech beads.
A silver hook-like closure secures the necklace, which easily slips over the head.
Rich patina characteristic of old tribal pieces, mid 20th century – Collected in Niger.
