Large Tuareg repoussé tcherot from Niger.
Traditionally, tcherots contain protective texts or amulets intended to guard the wearer against illness, misfortune and the evil eye.
Elaborate repoussé work and engraving decorate the brass sheet front.
Silver cutouts embellish the corners and copper covers the pointed tips.
An inscription in Tifinagh script on the reverse records the maker’s name.
Collected in the Tillabéri region of Niger.
