Description
The Sahara as well as the regions of the Sahel were greatly influenced by the caravans of the trans-Saharan trades routes; Berber women of southern Morocco had a great appreciation for fine silver and gold jewelry, and this was transmitted to Moorish women of Mauritania, Senegal and Mali.
This delicate Moor or Toutcouleur silver pendant of cruciform shape is superbly detailed with fine silver coiling and large granulation.
Excellent condition, mid to late 20th century – Collected in Mali.
