Description

Jewelry from the Sahara has always been characterized by protective symbolism. Amulets may be made of various materials, but primarily of metal and leather.
Tuareg women wear jewelry as adornment as well as protective talismans. In the past, conus shells were traded as a form of currency and are also appreciated for their protective powers.
This conch shell amulet and bronze disk, have been sewn onto a piece of leather. The amulet pendant hangs on a multi-strand leather necklace with a twist closure.
