Description
This Tuareg necklace, called takassa is the type worn by young girls.
The central triangular pendant is known as n’gadoun or lahia which is finely hand-chased and hangs from a strand of colored glass beads interspersed with long cylindrical silver beads, known as “ismana” in Tamascheq.
A twist button like bead closure secures the necklace, which easily slips over the head.
Rich usage patina characteristic of old tribal pieces, mid 20th century – Collected in Niger.
