Description

Authentic Tuareg amulet container from the Iwellemmeden Kel Ataram of Mali, complete with its original hand-braided cotton neck strand.

Crafted from brass sheet with applied copper end panels, the container is finely engraved with traditional geometric motifs. The reverse is made of tin sheet metal. Decorative tassels remain intact on either side of the neck strand.

These amulet containers traditionally held protective Koranic verses or other sacred writings and were worn as personal talismans.
