Description
Old Mossi wood flute from Burkina Faso, carved from a dense dark wood and displaying a rich brown-black patina developed through age, handling, and use.
The flute has an elegant tapered form with a suspension hole at the wider end and decorative carved bands near the mouthpiece. Its smooth surface and pronounced patina reflect long-term handling and use.
Among the Mossi people of Burkina Faso, flutes traditionally accompanied ceremonies, dances, and mask performances, often alongside balafons and drums. Musical instruments played an important role in community celebrations and ritual events.
Collected in Burkina Faso, this flute is both a traditional musical instrument and a finely crafted example of Mossi material culture.
Authentic signs of age, wear, and use are present throughout.
