This old Baule wood comb is adorned on one side with a pattern of cut out triangles displayed in bands.
Elaborately carved wooden combs are often presented to a Baule women and usually by a male relative or friend in order to commemorate an important event, such as puberty rites, weddings and births.
Excellent patina with teeth of comb worn from usage, mid 20th century – Collected in Ivory Coast.
