Description
A subject often depicted in African amulets, is the chameleon.
This old Lobi bronze amulet of a chameleon, with thinned suspension loop, was worn extensively.
Symbol of intelligence for its ability to camouflage itself, the chameleon also has all round vision to protect itself from predators.
Worn as an amulet, it protects its wearer against illness.
Excellent vert-de-gris patina, early 20th century or earlier.
Collected in Burkina Faso.
