Description

Djenne (Jenné-jeno) lozenge shape copper alloy pendant or bead.
This large object is decorated with undulating lines at its centre, probably representing water.
Those with social importance such as village chiefs and nobles would wear copper alloy metal jewelry.
Centuries ago, a sophisticated artistic metal working tradition prospered in this area of the Inner Niger River Delta.
Lost wax, hollow cast.
Oxidised vert-de-gris patina – Collected in Mali.
