Description
A fine old pair of tribal used Tuareg or Bella large aluminum Tizabaten hoop earrings from Mali, with superbly shaped tips, decorated with hand-incised designs.
During and after WWII, aluminum was collected from German and U.S. plane wrecks, the metal was melted and re-used in the same traditional way of brass and bronze casting.
The finials of these large hoops end in small rings through which twine or leather was attached. This would allow for the hoops to be attached to the hair with additional twine or leather, as a headdress. One hoop adorning either side of the woman’s face.
Aluminum jewelry was worn by those who could not afford silver, as a piece like this would require a lot of silver for its elaboration.
