The word Biga means child in the Moré language.
The day she marries, the young girls receives the figure and will carry it with her.
Facial features on these figures are simplified or suggested and are often absent, as is the case with this Biga.
Biga figures serve two functions: to assure that the birth goes well and to protect the child against illness and death.
