Known as Biga, which means child in the Moré language.
A young girls receives the figure the day she marries.
When she gives birth, she carries the figure with her.
Biga figures serves two functions: to assure that the birth goes well and to protect the child against illness and death.
Rich patina, mid 20th century – Collected in Burkina Faso.
