Description
Three strands of antique Venetian wound glass trade beads with black bodies and yellow trailing decoration, dating from the mid to late 1800s.
The cylindrical beads display an attractive combination of black glass with applied yellow and occasional white trail ornamentation, characteristic of Venetian trade beads produced for the African trade. The strands retain their original hand-spun cotton twine, adding to their authenticity and age.
The beads show age-related wear and small losses to the applied trail decoration, consistent with long use and circulation.
All three stands of beads are on their original cotton twine.
Collected in Mali.
