Description

Large pair of Bambara tegere wood clappers from Mali.
Tegere are traditional percussion instruments used by Bambara and Bozo communities during dances, ceremonies, and social celebrations, where music, rhythm, and movement play an important cultural role.

One clapper is carved with a stylised Bambara female figure, while the other features a serpent motif and intricate geometric decoration. Both examples display hand-carved details and surface wear consistent with age and use.

Collected in the Segou region of Mali, these wooden clappers reflect the rich artistic traditions of the region and the importance of percussion instruments in communal celebrations and performances.

Authentic signs of age, patina, and long-term use are present throughout.
