Description
A distinctive Wodaabe amulet waist belt, known as a grigri, collected in Bani Bangou in the Tillabéri Region of Niger.
Crafted from hand-worked leather, the belt features eight rectangular amulet compartments decorated with geometric stamped designs. Contrasting green leather panels with finely cut patterns add visual interest and reflect the craftsmanship associated with Wodaabe adornment traditions.
Traditionally worn around the waist, the amulets were believed to provide protection to the wearer.
The belt displays an attractive patina developed through use, enhancing its authenticity and character.
