Ancient Djenne Glass Beads Strand Excavated 36, Mali

Description

A rare and exceptional occurrence, is that the great majority of the ancient beads in this strand are fused together.
This is the result of mineralization from burial for hundreds of years in the desert sands, also resulting in a superb iridescence that covers almost each of the beads.
Commonly known as ‘Djenne beads’ these have been found “in situ” and later strung on nylon thread.
Superb colours with some very rare yellow beads included, almost all with much sought after iridescence.
Bead sizes range from: 3 mm to 7 mm in diameter and 5 mm to 5 mm in length and are approximately 1000 years old.
Collected in Mali.
